OpenAI unveiled its highly anticipated Dots agents at DevDay 2026, introducing customizable, proactive assistants that run continuously in the cloud. Powered by a persistent chat with the new GPT-6 Astra model, a Dot acts as an orchestrator that can spin up multiple sub-chats in Codex or ChatGPT Work to execute tasks. Users can name their Dot, select an avatar, and communicate with it via voice or text. Because the agents run on OpenAI's own cloud infrastructure, users do not need to keep their local computers active. One Dot is included in ChatGPT Pro plans, and while the agent itself does not count toward usage limits, the auxiliary chats it spawns will draw from those caps.

Alongside the agent launch, OpenAI restructured its subscription tiers by introducing a Pro 500 plan. This joins the existing Pro 100 and Pro 200 tiers, establishing a standardized multiplier system based on the twenty-dollar Plus plan. The one-hundred, two-hundred, and five-hundred-dollar tiers now offer five, ten, and twenty-five times the base usage, respectively. While this adjustment reduces the limits for some existing two-hundred-dollar plan subscribers, OpenAI is compensating them with one-time credits. For users requiring rapid execution, OpenAI introduced an Ultrafast mode for GPT-6 Astra that operates eight times faster at six times the standard usage cost. The company also rolled out GPT-6.1 Sol, which improves upon GPT-5.6 Sol, and the Decisions API, which leverages GPT-6 Luna to classify data ten times faster than standard Luna calls.

The developer ecosystem received several updates, including Sign in with ChatGPT, which allows users to apply their subscription usage to third-party applications. OpenAI also introduced ChatGPT Space, a collaborative, document-focused workspace, and added reusable environments to Codex cloud. Meanwhile, competition in the frontier space is intensifying. Google announced Gemini 4 Argon, a model that remains unreleased but boasts benchmark scores higher than both GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic's Opus 5.5, with promotional pricing matching Sol. Meta also expanded its footprint by adding Shopify, Stripe, QuickBooks, and Klaviyo connectors to its Muse for Small Business platform.
